Organic Cotton

Soft, comfy, and lush - we chose organic cotton because we love the feel of this natural fibre but acknowledge the water intensive role traditional cotton farming and harvesting plays in the agricultural market. Organic cotton uses less ground water and surface-body water to produce their yields, using small-scale farms to grow cotton in areas where rain contributes to irrigation for crops. Organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides and genomic enhancing chemicals, which means less contamination from these chemicals into bodies of water through run-offs and output. All our cotton has been pre-shrunk which means you can wash it at home.

Acetate

One of the best kep secrets of the sustainable fabric industry. Acetate is spun yarn fabric made from the byproduct of wood pulp cellulose. The lumber and construction industries discard wood byproduct everyday - why not use it to make a silky soft, yet durable fabric. We love this material for it’s shine and resiliency. It glides over the body and it oh so elegant. Although we recommend dry cleaning, not much upkeep is needed for this material and spot treating with water takes care of almost any dirt or mark. One less trip to the dry cleaners means a little less carbon intensity for the planet.

Recycled Polyester

When you can’t be perfect, try your best. Our Nimbus tops and Slip skirts are made from recycled polyester which takes virgin PET materials out of the mix, and uses existing recycled polyethylene terephthalate to make fabrics. Existing PET materials found in everyday recyclables are broken down and spun into yarn, ultimately making up all of our polyester based materials. Using recycled polyester instead of traditional taps into the over abundance of recycled household products that are currently being freighted, shipped, and remade into usable products around the world.

Small Batch Local Production

All BANK OF YOUTH garments are made in house in downtown Los Angeles. Our factory has the utmost commitment to fair and ethical working wage and treatment for artisan garment makers and factory workers. Having local in-house production means we are one step closer and right there along the way throughout the process.

Sustainable Sourcing

This humble first collection from BANK OF YOUTH has been percolating for a whole year, most of which was spent sourcing sustainable materials that would create the smallest carbon footprint feasible for BANK OF YOUTH to product clothing. Many of our materials come from cultivated relationships with textile manufacturers in Japan, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States. We are committed to sourcing as environmentally stable and sustainable materials for production as possible, right down to the elastication and strap adjusters.
